Text 13 Oct 20 notes When franchise’s go bad.

This happens time and time again within cinema. A film gets astronomically popular and sequels start being churned out like a 12 pint hangover bout of vomiting. In turn the more copies of the original you get, you weaker the plot, acting and quality becomes. So I was told today about Paranormal Activity 3. Three??? Yes, and like all horror sequels that haven’t signed up for more than they can write we are brought to “where it all began.

A round up of the trailer goes as follow.

1. thick as pig shit father thinks his 5 year old daughter can do a magic trick.

2. same father sets up video cameras around the house (if it aint broke yada yada yada…)

3. Parents see some mental shit on the camera including their youngest (the magician) decking it off a staircase, only to appear walking back up them completely un harmed.

4, 5, 6 & 7. lots’ of running around, screaming and maglite stuck to video camera. (again, if it aint broke… )

By the looks of things there isn’t really much of a plot difference, aside from the introduction of the David Copperfield kids. Here’s hoping the director doesn’t go for a 4th instalment, though he seems to have the ‘throwing people around by a ghost’ technique down pretty well, so lets have a re boot of the Poltergeist yeah?

Of all the films being re made at the moment surely one like Poltergeist, or Pulse would benefit from a horror aspect. Yes they keep their 80/90’s charm but re boots would be fucking terrifying with modern HD and SFX.

just a thought

postwarstories:

We’re ploughing through the ideas at the moment and beginning to create a very defined sound.

I find it no coincidence that the more the material is developing, the more the weather is resembling Autumn. We seem to be polluting the atmosphere with fog and claustrophobic humidity.

Text 18 Apr 16 notes Queens Pier God give me strength

Christ almighty I am terrible at keeping this thing going.

I think I could be content with my professional life if I was able to write for something, somewhere. A paper article, some sort of column or interest piece once a month. As you’ll no doubt gather (whoever the hell you are) I am not trained as a journalist or an author, I just enjoy babbling and wittering on about things. Things that need to get out of my head in order that I stop talking to myself and can actually concentrate on a job at hand.

Friday was the day I found out about the Queens Pier in Ramsey. One vote clear to keep it and prolong the agony of what to do with it once more. Whoever that crucial vote belonged to should be taking a long hard moment to themselves today as they realise just what they’ve voted for. I understand the public and media were locked out of the voting?? Was there a reason given for this?

A few people have said it will be great for the town, encourage people to visit Ramsey and help with the rejuvenation of Ramsey. I ask, if you need a victorian to help rejuvenate a town in the 21st Century you have a lot more problems with the town than you think. Throwing up a lick of paint and putting a cafe on the end of it isn’t going to encourage me up there, for the simple reason that Ramsey is a shit hole. Every little town or village over here has it’s own charm. Ramsey’s charm seems to be that 1980’s council estate look, A new pier won’t change that.  If Government, or Ramsey Commissioners are going to do something with the pier, have a plan for the rest of the prom first. Theme the lot on a victorian seaside or turn the place into a Coney Island type theme park with a big wheel, strongmen, fucking mad mirrors that make you look like a fat cunt in one and a dwarf in another.

I see the swearing has started to come out so I’ll take a leave of absence for now.

Text 15 Mar First thought in months

When do you raise your hands and admit defeat?

The past nine months have been absolutely insane. In that time I have bought a house, lost my job, started my own business, realised said business isn’t going to keep me going, taken my first holiday in over six years and realised that after ten years I’m probably never going to be a rock star…… This is a lot to take in and in the past fortnight and it hit me, all at  once.

Thankfully, I have quite an understanding girlfriend, who manages to keep a level head in these sort of circumstances and has managed to pull me back down to the ground after I thought I was going to explode.

So where do we (and by we I mean me) go from here?? Well I’ve started putting out the CV to the masses, keeping my eye out for any job that I can do. Unfortunately there aren’t many openings for a music obsessed, horror fan critic of society so for now I’ll have to stick to any graphic design or marketing roles that are out there.

In some good news however, as one musical door is slowly closed another is blown open. A very nice project is in the writing stages with some members of POP. What we’ll do with it, I don’t know. But for the first time ever, I’m not going to make any effort in trying to get it signed, or noticed, or on some tour. Whatever it becomes will be just grand with me.

I think I’ve spewed enough thoughts for now.

Text 7 Jan Christ it’s 2011

Well it seems 2011 has reared its ugly head from the foreseeable future to the present. And what a bastard it has been about it. Killing off Pete Postlethwaite and Gerry Rafferty is not the best way to get my attention I can tell you.

As the rules of karma state a bit of bad news also carries some equally opposite good news. Instead of just saying I’m a musician now I can actually start being one again and will start to rehearse all the new Planes Over Paris scribblings this Saturday. This will be the first time I’ve had chance to give my new bass a good thrashing too, which I’m rather joyous about.

This is just short as there’s far too much I could whinge about and that wouldn’t make great reading. I’ll leave you with a selection of wonderful people to listen to.
